Ian Monk, qui vient de nous quitter, était un écrivain prolifique et prodigieusement doué. Il laisse derrière lui plus de 20 œuvres originales, principalement des livres de poésie (Plouk Town, N/S, Twin Towers, 14x14) et même un roman (La Jeunesse de Mek-Ouyes), ainsi qu'une multitude de traductions (Darrieussecq, Pennac, Perec, Roubaud, Roussel). Ian avait des goûts éclectiques et une générosité anarchique ; le défilé d'écrivains, vagabonds et bons à rien qui dormaient sur son canapé ou dans sa chambre d'amis était une œuvre d'art en soi. Cette soirée, que nous avons imaginée comme une open house avec un éventail d'hommages aussi large que possible, est notre façon de témoigner de notre affection à cet homme extraordinaire.

Ian Monk, who passed away in September, was a prolific and prodigiously gifted writer. He leaves behind over 20 original works, poetry mostly (Plouk Town, N/S, Twin Towers, 14x14) as well as the occasional novel (La Jeunesse de Mek-Ouyes), and also a wealth of translations (Darrieussecq, Pennac, Perec, Roubaud, Roussel). Ian was omnivorous in his tastes and anarchic in his generosity; the parade of writers, waifs and wastrels who slept on his sofa or in his spare room was a work of art in itself. This evening, which we have imagined as an open house with as broad a selection of tributes as possible, is our way of paying homage to this extraordinary man.
